How to successfully apply for the Fund for Excellence

- research the cost of the materials & supplies
- fill out the forms (check for errors)
- hand it in on time

Setting up CV's for different needs

You will be asked for a CV (resume) in a variety of different circumstances over the years to come. Your CV should be adjusted for each unique circumstance. The idea is to give the reader the information they need as easily and as fast as possible. You also want to show that you know about what you are applying for. Columbus College of Art & Design
On Friday, Oct 24th, John Cairns from Columbus College of Art & Design will be presenting  and conducting portfolio reviews in room 228.

A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board in 228. You do not have to show your portfolio if you don’t wish too. It is still worth the time to hear what he has to save about graduate schools. You can ask him specific questions about applying, the program, expectations after graduating with an MFA and such.

Internship Opportunities

There are several interesting internship possibilities in the arts for the 2014-2015 school year that would be well suited for responsible Hartwick students.  Feel free to spread the word and have students contact me directly via hopevonstengel@gmail.com for more details about the internship positions.

CANO- As Oneonta's largest art organization, CANO is always looking for interns to help with exhibitions, gallery sitting, social media promotion, design, coordinating events, bookkeeping, membership, community outreach, etc.  The possibilities are endless.

More Art Space- More Art Space is Zena Gurbo's new art gallery on Main Street that occupies the same building as the Golden Lotus & Main View Gallery.  She is currently looking for interns who are interested in learning the various aspects of running a new, aspiring art gallery.  Assistance with gallery openings, all stages of the exhibition process, promoting the space, future fundraisers, etc. is desired.

Oneonta Pop Shop- This year the Pop Shop is coordinating the 3rd annual holiday art/craft sale at CANO, as well as occupying More Art Space for the month prior to Xmas.  Students with expertise and/or interest in creating a blog via wordpress, graphic design, coordinating a holiday indie art/craft sale event, promotion, assistance in setting up a retail art/craft space, etc. are needed.

Questions about last weeks discussion with the visiting artist? Did they shake your tree?

Senior Thesis in Art
- the goal is to create one work of art that shows fine craftsmanship and a powerful aesthetic that is connected to and relays an idea.

- The idea can be anything from a political statement to portraying an emotion

- This art piece does not need to solve or answer every aspect connected to your idea. It should hone in on one important thought. Think broad then narrow in.

Self Promotion
- We are living in a time where "user generated content" is valued.  User generated content is basically individual creativity that has been put on public display. You can see how this overlaps with the basic concept of art which is to create and display.

Person to Person
- talking to people
- go to galleries
- join groups ~ CANO is the local arts organization in Oneonta
- cold selling your work
- show cards ~ uprinting.com
- business cards ~ uprinting.com

Online
- Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pintrest, Tumblr, Blogger, Youtube, Flickr, SoundCloud, Delicious, Blurb, Linkedin, Vine, Instagram and .......?????
- Email
- Facebook events
- Blog about your work and your interest

- Website/Blog to sell your skills/wares
- Web 2.0 site to sell your skills/wares ~ elance.com/etsy.com
