Welcome to Art411 Art Theory & Practice.
What is "art"? Who is an artist? What does an artist do?
This class is for senior studio art students who have successfully passed the Junior Review. The goal of this class is to answer the question "What do I do with an art degree once I graduate from college". It is an interactive seminar where you are expected to ask questions and research answers.
Our semester involves:
As a student who is about to graduate from art school, what questions do you have about making art and working as an artist after college?
* Make a list of 10 things you want the class to cover.
What do you expect to do during your first year after college?
* Write down your goals as an artist during your first year out of college. Be honest.
* What job would you like to have? How do you want to make money?
What Questions do you have about the Senior Show?
- The purpose of the show.
- Making a plan (it can change)
We will be participating in this this year!

103A N. 3rd St., Brooklyn, NY
This is our home! If you haven't visited us yet, we can't wait to show you our Williamsburg storefront. This reinvented industrial space houses all of your sketchbooks and provides access to artists, locals and visitors from across the globe. An archive of inspiration, a purveyor of art supplies to the neighborhood and a living library of sketchbooks — welcome to our Brooklyn HQ.
Chicago, IL
May 3-5, 2012
Hyde Park Art Center
5020 S. Cornell Ave., Chicago, IL
We're excited to be returning to the Hyde Park Art Center for another year. HPAC is the oldest alternative exhibition space in Chicago and a proud anchor of the city's vibrant cultural life. We're honored to join the Center's 70-year legacy of arts education and community outreach and we can't wait to bring the Sketchbook Project back to Hyde Park.
Los Angeles, CA
May 24-26, 2012
iam8bit Gallery
2147 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA
iam8bit is an art space, production company and crack squad of creative professionals. With an emphasis on the intersection of physical and digital culture and an amazing warehouse space in the heart of Echo Park, we couldn't be happier with our new Sketchbook Project home base in LA.
San Francisco, CA
June 2-23, 2012
Sketchbook Project Pop-Up Shop
Location TBD
The Sketchbook Project community spoke and we listened: more time in the Bay Area! This year, we're creating a West Coast hub in San Francisco for the first three weeks of June. Expect special events, artist gatherings and a lot more time spent exploring sketchbooks — not waiting in line! We'll announce a location early in 2012...
Greater Boston
July 6-8, 2012
LynnArts
25 Exchange St., Lynn, MA
LynnArts is another new venue that we're thrilled to welcome into the Sketchbook Project community. A driving force behind the resurgence of Lynn's historic downtown, LynnArts is a nonprofit dedicated to a mission of "building community through the arts." We hope to welcome visitors from across New England to this perfect spot on the North Shore.
Portland, ME
July 11-14, 2012
SPACE Gallery
538 Congress St., Portland, ME
SPACE is a nonprofit contemporary art space, a beacon to artists from miles around and, just coincidentally, our venue for last year's tour, too. We love SPACE's role as Portland's artistic and cultural hub and we can't wait to share in that spirit again this year.
Atlanta, GA
Aug 29 - Sept 1, 2012
MASS collective
364 Nelson St. SW, Atlanta, GA
MASS is a new community arts organization and shared workspace in the Castleberry Hill arts district. We're pleased to join forces and present the 2012 Project as part of MASS collective's inaugural year of exhibitions and events.
In addition to these amazing exhibition spaces, we're getting ready to confirm our dates in Austin, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Toronto and Portland, OR. We're also working on a big announcement of our plans for London and Melbourne, Australia!
Please note that all sketchbooks submitted to the 2012 Sketchbook Project will participate in the tour, although the London and Melbourne shows will be limited to books from Europe and Australia, respectively. All books will be exhibited at every North American tour stop. Stay tuned!
